The red-hot form of champions Portmore United continued as they secured win number five on the trot with a 1-0 scoreline over Dunbeholden FC, in another fairly entertaining St Catherine derby on match day 14 of the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) yesterday. Striker Jovan East found the solitary goal of the game in the 84th minute that handed Portmore United all three points at Royal Lakes Complex. With the win which extended their unbeaten run across six games, Portmore United opened up an eight-point gap atop the standings as they increased their tally to 30 points. The hapless Dunbeholden remain at the foot of the 12-team standing on nine points. The St Catherine derby was again expected to excite spectators as the 3-2 scoreline between neighbours Portmore United and Dunbeholden in their first-round meeting was still fresh on the minds of many.
Even though it did not live up to expectations there were a few intriguing moments in the game, particularly for host Dunbeholden who enjoyed the better of play for most of the contest.

Good glove work from Benjamin Williams in goal for Portmore United ensured that the first half ended goalless, as he came up big in full flight to deny Kemo Gayle’s stinging, right-footed effort from the edge of the box in the 37th minute.

The resumption would be more of the same as the momentum stuck with Dunbeholden who thought they had the breakthrough in the 65th minute, but Dwayne Smith’s effort was ruled offside.

In the 76th minute Williams again left his line well to thwart a break away by substitute Kemar Shaw, who was well on his way to goal
A minute later, Dunbeholden again got the ball in the back of the net, but DeAndre Thomas’s header from Nickoy Christian’s weighted free kick was again ruled out as an offside
By then Portmore United would have been counting their blessings and rode their fortunes to find the breakthrough against the run of play
Roberto Johnson went on the run down the right channel before whipping in a cross to East whose initial header came back off the upright, but the striker made no mistake on the rebound which he fired past a diving Eric Edwards in goal for Dunbeholden six minutes from time
