On Wednesday, the athletes who will defend the colors of the Chunichi "Dragons" franchise in the upcoming season left for Japan. These are the cases of Raidel Martínez, the rookie Yariel Coujil and catcher Ariel José Martínez Camacho.
Ariel, champion with the "Cocodrilos" in the 59th National Series, is recovering satisfactorily from the injury he suffered in the third game of the final against the "Toros" of Camagüey.
Ariel José Martínez Camacho, who will be for the third consecutive year in Japanese baseball, will make the final part of the recovery with his club.
"I am improving every day, the doctors who saw me at Frank País Hospital ordered me a stem cell treatment and I think that in less than 30 days I will return to training in Venezuela".
The catcher from Matanzas, said that, although he aspires to represent Cuba in the Pre-Olympic that will begin on March 22 in Arizona, he is not going to force anything.
"I am optimistic, I think I can help the team. Sometimes when these injuries come one does not return the same in terms of sporting form. If I`m not well, it`s better to give way to another athlete who can perform to the maximum".
Ariel José Martínez Camacho was injured in his best moment of the season.
"It happens in sport. It is true that I was in an impressive shape, both physically and mentally, I had not felt this way for a long time. Let`s see if when I come back I can find myself with that performance."
A native of the city of Matanzas, he considers that this year he should have more opportunity with the "Dragons" in the Major Leagues.
"It`s my third year, I already have to make the leap in quality, that`s what I have in my mind. I hope the injury doesn`t slow me down. I`m going with the mentality that I will have a good tournament and that I will be given more opportunities."
Ariel José Martínez Camacho, who is one of the great baseball prospects, sent a message to the Venezuelan fans, who supported them from the very beginning of the National Series.
"I am very happy with the fans who always trusted us, they showed it with the great reception they gave us. Nobody stayed at home, everyone went to the streets to celebrate with us. That says a lot about the love they have for our team, I leave with those images in my head. I`m leaving for a while, but I`m looking forward to playing again in that Victoria de Girón ground and in front of my people".
